Merry Christmas

This is it! There is only a few days left to find out if we have been naughty or nice. I normally stay on edge around this time of the year as to which category Santa Clause has placed me in. I wonder if he has advisors that he listens to? You know, trusted confidant’s that can bend his ear if he has missed anything throughout the year both good and bad.

For example, just the other day I was ordering a burger, and at the counter where you order the food, was a tip jar. I gleefully placed a dollar bill in the jar but to my horror, I realized no one behind the counter saw me do it. I spent the rest of the day feeling cheating for not being seen doing a good deed and worse, the burger wasn’t that good. Oh well, time to move on.

I enjoy Christmas very much, I love the commercials, the movies, the music, the lights and the sounds. People are generally more polite and happy during this time. I personally believe it is because you have something else to say other than “hey, how’s it going dude” or ‘what’s up?”. It’s much more fun when you can say;

“Hey, Merry Christmas dude!”, or “Hey Happy Hanukkah dude!”. You don’t have to use the word dude if you don’t want to, I think you get the point. Now, on to the movies…

Even though I know what’s gonna happen and I have seen the movie a thousand times, I still cheer for George Bailey in, It’s a wonderful life. Especially, when he figures out what is really important to him. And yes, I still get super mad at Uncle Billy for being such a careless dip-wad, as to hand old man Potter the money! I get even more upset that old man Potter doesn’t give the dang money back! I guarantee that Old man Potter never got a visit from Santa Clause.

Secretly, I have to admit that the toughest man on TV, Sam Elliot makes me ball like baby when he finally realizes what’s important to him and reads “Is there a Santa Clause” to his daughter in the movie Prancer. Seriously people, when Sam Elliot starts openly weeping on TV, I start my incoherent blubbering, immediately toss my man card under the Christmas tree and grab a box of tissues. If you have never read the article, here is the link and if you haven’t seen Prancer, here is a homemade clip of the scene, (it’s all I could find)…

It’s Christmas week friends, there is always someone out there that has it worse than I do or you do, so try and spread some cheer to those that need it. Maybe, like the cashier that is covering a double shift because they need the money or someone called in sick and they stepped up and covered for them.

Here is some of the best advice I have ever received in regards to Christmas; try to work hard to gracefully and genuinely accept cheer from others, which is almost as important as spreading cheer. Oh, and lastly, try not to stress too much.

It’s Jesus’s birthday so Merry Christmas everyone, enjoy the week, the build up, the movies, the shopping, seeing kids tear into gifts, the eating, the smiles and the hugs, I know I will.
